Introduction

My name is Marcella Martinez. I'm a senior studying Family Consumer Sciences at the University of Idaho.I grew up in Yakima, Washington and moved to Idaho about 5 years ago. I'm not much of a blogger. I'm pretty excited to start blogging and hopefully it enhances my education.

My interest in sociology is primarily driven my the process of aging. As medical advances and technology continue to increase so does life expectancy. The population of elders continues to increase and so does our need to understand the sociological effects and opportunity to learn about the cognitive and physiological effects aging has on the mind and body.

The sociological process of aging is crucial to not only understand individual experience associated with aging but also a aging society. I believe that people experience different sociological events that shape and effect ones aging, as well as how society views aging. Our societies views on aging plays a huge part on the mentality of aging in individuals. Social factors effect the different ways individuals experience aging in a aging population.

Just because society tell us that we reach an age in which we are too old to do certain things such as dress, talk, act, and physical activities does not mean that we are. I'm a strong believer in fighting stereotypes especially when it comes to aging.
